On the evening of December 5th,
a gentle hush will fall over Lynn Valley United Church—
the kind of hush that settles right before music begins to breathe.
A Season for Peace & Love returns once more,
a tribute to John Lennon’s legacy and a soft lantern lifted for the Downtown Eastside Gospel Mission, where weary hands are warmed and hope is offered without condition.
In that glow,
my dear friend Bruce Coughlan
will take the stage.
You’ll know him when you hear him—
his music doesn’t demand attention;
it simply moves through the room like water finding every quiet place inside you.
His talent is shaped by heart—
steady,
soulful,
beautifully human.
Though our first song together has yet to
bloom—
a melody we’re beginning to shape and one he’ll perform in the future—
I’ll be sitting there grateful,
knowing art grows best in the presence of people like him.
But this night is about something bigger than any one voice.
It’s about warmth,
blankets,
toques,
socks,
jackets—
small mercies that become lifelines for those who need them most.
It’s about community stitched together by compassion.
And yes…
I plan to be there—
to sit in the glow,
hear Bruce play,
and be part of something gentle and good…
as long as the border remains open and the path north is clear for me to cross.
